چکیده

In this note we investigate the behavior of polar tangential angle a general plane curve, and in particular prove its monotonicity for certain curves monotone curvature. As an application give (non)existence results obstacle problem involving free elasticae.

Existence, regularity and structure of confined elasticae

We consider the problem of minimizing the bending or elastic energy among Jordan curves confined in a given open set Ω. We prove existence, regularity and some structural properties of minimizers. In particular, when Ω is convex we show that a minimizer is necessarily a convex curve. We also provide an example of a minimizer with self-intersections.

Interpolations with Elasticae in Euclidean Spaces

Motivated by interpolation problems arising in image analysis, computer vision, shape reconstruction and signal processing, we develop an algorithm to simulate curve straightening flows under which curves in R of fixed length and prescribed boundary conditions to first order evolve to elasticae, i.e., to (stable) critical points of the elastic energy E given by the integral of the square of the...

A new isoperimetric inequality for the elasticae

For a smooth curve γ, we define its elastic energy as E(γ) = 12 ∫ γ k(s)ds where k(s) is the curvature. The main purpose of the paper is to prove that among all smooth, simply connected, bounded open sets of prescribed area in R, the disc has the boundary with the least elastic energy. In other words, for any bounded simply connected domain Ω, the following isoperimetric inequality holds: E(∂Ω)...

String spectrum of curved string backgrounds obtained by T-duality and shifts of polar angles

A class of exactly solvable string models can be obtained by starting with flat space and combining T-duality and shifts of angular coordinates of several polar planes. The models are the analog of the Lunin-Maldacena β-deformation of the AdS5 × S type IIB string background, which is dual to a Leigh-Strassler deformation of N = 4 Super Yang-Mills Theory. We determine the complete physical strin...
